Telefónica points to ... so-called edge computing converting into Earth or Terra Computing. Among other benefits, this [new form of] edge computing will remove the bottleneck that occurs when data from connected devices needs to travel at high speeds to public or private clouds, always long round trips. Instead of moving to the aforementioned clouds, it would be enough to place the computing power as close to the user, at the edge of the services themselves"

Telefónica is preparing to establish a New Brand that is said to focus on making current Connectivity Infrastructure more easily "Programmable", based on a “Standard specified 5G Model”, under the names "Earth Computing" & "Terra Computing", which Telefónica applied to Trademark in September, 2022.The New Unit is intended to enable Developers, Programmers, & Digital Service Providers (SPs) to Customise Network Specifications using Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Plans involve opening APIs to enable Programmers to more easily configure Cloud Computing Services in Real Time, while attempting to minimise Traffic to the Cloud using Edge Computing, based on a “Standard 5G model”.
