Title of Talk: Introduction of the Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP)

Abstract: 

The Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP) in Japan is a national project to accomplish its role in leading science, technology, and innovation beyond the framework of government ministries and traditional disciplines. Each research program is led by one of the experienced and talented program directors (PDs) who are responsible for end-to-end focused research and development, facilitating coordination among government, industry, and academic entities. These directors have been charged with guiding their projects from basic research to practical application and commercialization, and ultimately to a clear exit strategy.
The Intelligent Knowledge Processing Infrastructure Integrating Cyber and Physical Domains is one of key programs in SIP which likely has common goal and technological thoughts with your community, LF Edge. In this program, six operations groups share roles and work on the social implementation of a common edge computing platform that facilitates the development of IoT solutions without special expertise. Dr. Saso is one of the PDs, who takes the leadership of this program. One of the LF Edge board members, Fujitsu gave him an opportunity to introduce this program.

Title of Talk: EdgeFaaS for Open Edge Scenarios

Abstract: 

It used to be the app store model to open up capabilities, but hardware vendors are always at the bottom. Provide a BSP or SDK for the operating system layer to call, and then encapsulate a PaaS layer to share. But computing network convergence devices are not the same, through the EdgeFAAS to the edge computing network fusion capabilities are open. We've used SONiC. Such converged computing devices will be deployed in large numbers in industrial parks, small data centers and home gateways. It has the ability of network access convergence and computing power scheduling. EdgeFAAS opens up the ability to edge scenarios. 
AI learns in two methods, supervised and unsupervised. In unsupervised machine learning, the AI takes inputs and creates a response. Overtime, the AI slowly realizes the best responses. In supervised learning, the AI takes an input and gives an exact output. This machine learning teaches the AI what is wrong and right, so in the future, it can distinguish by itself.

Bio: 

is an Enterprise Architect at Arm, where she is responsible for designing and implementing robust strategies to establish first tier status for Arm architecture within open-source communities and projects. In this role, Tina employs a comprehensive knowledge of relevant NFV/SDN collaborative open-source initiatives, open-source development tools, processes, build systems, packaging, continuous integration, and test methodologies. Recognized as a thought leader, she forges powerful partnerships with open-source communities in support of multiple architectures, while prioritizing requirements for open-source enablement in collaboration with Arm key stakeholders and relevant ecosystem partners. Tina also drives and empowers Arm’s Edge Computing Team.

Currently, Tina is Chair of the Technical Steering Committee for Akraino.

Prior to joining Arm, Tina excelled as the Digital Domain Expert for Connectivity at Philips Lighting, where she championed the company’s first NB-IoT solution, and facilitated the company’s transition from conventional lighting to LED and digital lighting technology. Additionally, she was employed by Huawei for 16 years in Technical Lead and Principal Engineer roles, where she led network architecture design, new product definition, product marketing strategy, and technology research—and developed the company’s first IPv6 network migration professional service product.

Tina has been awarded 100+ patents and 15 IETF RFCs. She earned her Bachelor of Computer Science degree from Xi’an University of Architecture and Technologies in China.

Li Mingxuan: Master, senior member of IEEE, senior member of Chinese Institute of Electronics, senior engineer of China Unicom Research Institute, engaged in technology research and development and standard tracking work; main research directions are big data technology, cloud computing technology, business platform technology and IT support system technology ; Participate in the meetings of CCSA, GSMA, ITU and other domestic and foreign standards organizations.

Bio: Erik Hersman is the CEO of BRCK Inc., the first integrated hardware and software services company out of East Africa, which focuses on internet connectivity across the region. He leads a team that has built the largest public Wi-Fi network in Africa covering 2 million people across Kenya and Rwanda called Moja. Erik has also created one of the first IoT hardware solutions in Africa and has built out extensive relationships with Facebook, Internet Solutions and more.

Abstract: 

Bio: Olivier Bernard is currently the Director of High-Performance IoT at Arm, responsible for identifying and building IoT opportunities for OEM and ODMs through ecosystem development, uses case concepts and strategic partnerships across the IoT value chain. Prior to joining Arm, he was the Executive Vice-President for Maestro Wireless, a Hong Kong based IoT start-up where he founded their American subsidiary. Before 2008, he held various leadership positions with a few start-ups, and additional management positions in Business Development, Strategy and Engineering for CEL (Renesas), Litton Industries and California Amplifier.

Bio: Khemendra Kumar has 11+ years of experience in embedded, networking, SDN and Cloud/Edge computing. He worked in FD.io and DPDK community for VPP performance optimization, porting on multiple platforms, lightweight Host stacks like DMM with LWIP etc. Currently he is active in Akraino community to build lightweight Edge stack ELIOT for resource constraints devices. In Akraino, he is Project Team Lead (PTL) for Enterprise Edge Lightweight and IOT (ELIOT) Blueprint and is a Akrino Technical Steering Committee (TSC) member.
